ABOUT
Born in 1971, Lil’ Magic Sam is one of the few French musicians to have experienced Chicago blues firsthand. A prodigious harmonica player spotted at a very young age by Jacques Higelin, who invited himto perform at venues such as Mogador , the Casino de Paris, Bercy, and many others… he learned his craft from the greatest blues legends such asJohn Lee Hooker, Willie Dixon, Buddy Guy & Junior Wells,James Cotton, and many others… As a teenager, he moved to Chicago to perfect his blues education in the legendary clubs of Lincoln Avenue and Halsted Street —
Taken under Luther Allison’s wing, he joined his band and toured for several years in Europe and the United States. In 1989, he took the stage at the Montreux Jazz Festival as a special guest alongside B.B. King. His precocious talent impressed the international press, including the Chicago Tribune, the Wisconsin State Journal, Rock & Folk, Soul Bag, and Guitarist Magazine.
His style? Raw, energetic Chicago electric blues, infused with 70s R&B, rock, soul, funk, and reggae. He proudly cites his influences—Luther Allison, Freddie King, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Otis Redding, Bob Marley…—to create a sound that’s 100%
After a long hiatus, he returned in 2023 with the EP “No More Time,” followed in September 2025 by the album “Tired Out” —13 original songs entirely in English, produced from start to finish by him. He gave a 4-page interview to Blues Magazine No. 119 (Jan/Feb 2026) and received several album reviews (available on the PRESS page of the website). The album ranked in the Top 5 ofthe international and French Roots Music Report Top 50 for several weeks. It received heavy rotation on international blues radio stations.
Lil’ Magic Sam performs with a quintet, delivering a raw, powerful, and no-frills show—exactly what the blues calls for.
